     26th-27th June 2017 / Gijón (Asturias)
  • Are you ready?

Welcome

This year, the University of Oviedo, in the campus of Gijón, is proud to host the XXVII International Conference on Engineering Graphics, which will be held on June 26th, and 27th, 2017.

The Conference under the motto "New Models of Research and Collaboration in Engineering Graphics” is a forum for teachers, researchers and Engineering Graphics experts. Its aim is to share experiences, research project results, skills or ideas and to carry out a scientific exchange by facilitating new teamwork connections, and also help disseminate research conducted by different groups.

The Organizing Committee of Engineering Graphics Area of the University of Oviedo, is aware of the challenge of organizing such a Conference. Therefore, teachers and professionals are invited to participate in it, with the hope that this will be an ideal forum for communication, debate and collaboration.

Conference Schedule

The main objective of the Congress is to disseminate the work of the different research groups in which the members of our association are present and, in general, engineering graphics.

Therefore, the structure of this edition will focus on FIVE roundtables, to which we invite all partners interested in any of the topics to be addressed.

The final structure of each session is not closed yet, and will be adapted to the number of participants. Nevertheless, there will be an invited speaker on each session. This expert will make a brief presentation of the subject at hand, and afterwards, the expert will lead the debate between the attendees.

The topics to be discussed are:

1. Teaching. As an association of teachers that we are, we are interested in knowing the state of the area six years after the implementation of the new grades adapted to the Bologna Plan. A professor of the area, who has studied this subject during the last years, will tell us about the situation of the teaching of engineering graphics in our country and in the rest of Europe.
2. BIM technology. This new design methodology has been around on Engineering and Architecture for some time now. It is expected that the impact on the contents of the area will be similar to that of the introduction of CAD or GIS in its day. It is clear that we are dealing with a transversal methodology, whose teaching will have to be shared with other areas of knowledge. A professor from the area, who belongs to one of the BIM working groups of the Spanish Construction Technical Platform, who advises the Ministry, will introduce us to the current situation of BIM training in our country.
3. 3D printing. Although it also involves other areas, an increasing number of teachers of our association develop their teaching and/or research in the field of additive manufacturing. This encourages us to hold a session on this topic. An expert on A.M. from the Prodintec Foundation, a reference national Technological Centre, will talk about the last developments in the field. In addition, the promoters of the title "3D Creative Printing" at the University of Oviedo will participate.
4. Publications. Open Access is an international initiative that promotes the publication of various types of electronic materials and resources, such as scientific publications, teaching materials, academic and institutional materials, etc., in open access. One advantage is that it enhances the dissemination of work among the academic community and, therefore, increases the possibility of having a larger number of citations. In addition, the author retains the rights to his own work. On the other hand, this publication system is compatible with peer review. In fact, numerous high-impact journals publish free-access literature.
An expert from the library of the University of Oviedo will present the tools available to authors for publishing, disseminating and self-archiving their works and research with the maximum guarantees. This person will also explain how to access the materials that have been published under these conditions.
5. Financing. Getting funding for our projects has become a major challenge. CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial) projects are a further possibility of collaboration between researchers and companies to develop better products / services, and innovative processes, closer to the end user. An expert from the CDTI will tell us about the different ways of financing the innovation that this centre offers.
